I had one new as a demo. Exceptional handling and felt substantial for an economy car. The letdown was the monochromatic beige plastic interior. Ford interiors in the 90’s were awful. Very little in the way of varied materials. Even my ‘95 Sable LS had no fake wood, chrome, or other materials. Just an ocean of beige plastic. Cost cut to the penny and it showed.

Ford had terrible interiors in the ‘90’s. They were costed out to the penny and it showed. Oceans of monotone beige plastic. They looked like plastic storage totes inside. I had a rather expensive ‘95 Sable and it looked like a low-buck rental car inside. Not a single piece of chrome, fake wood, or varied surface textures.

I know this has been up for a while, but I wanted to say a sincere thank you for making this information available. As someone who specialises in classic car fuel systems it is INFINITELY helpful to be able to come back to documents like this and brush up on things, as well as to double check, it was like the wild west back then for fuelling and sometimes the information can get tangled up in my memory. Really appreciate it!

I have an original 96 D1 and 2001 LC and the LC will last for 50 years and 500K there is no way the D1 will do the same - of course the LC was 2x the money new

Love to see a D1 in the same contest - I much prefer my D1 than a D2 for a lot of reasons

I noticed some prototype parts in this video. The gauge cluster looks a little different regarding the mileage and gear selector font. The column shifter is bigger than the production model. The base model has blank buttons for the auto controls which base century's didn't have that in the production models. There is other production parts footage that you can find if you look closely and know these regals/century's well like me

I found an article online on the Independent website, from Saturday 08 May 1993 about Rickety Rentals. In the final paragraph there is a quote from Peter Hughes, the man driving the yellow Cortina in this video, about his kids hiding when travelling in the back of it as was mentioned here. And about how he once broke down in it with a flat battery.
